Ghost Town, My Ass!!

-> HobbyMan on February 29 2012
Time and time again I read blogs purporting the have "the inside scoop" of what's going on in G+land and where it's heading. These guys are supposed to be the experts on "social" and yet they still seem unable to get that Google+ is not a social network in the usual sense. I'm sure even Natalie Villalobos and the other googlers involved in the platform couldn't put their hand on their heart on say, "This is where we're going to be in 12 months time!".

Google have said over and over again that they're taking their time developing the platform while all the time _reacting to the people who actually use it_ in a concerted effort to avoid the pratfalls that others in the field have made to their detriment.
Facebook, Twitter, MySpace et al have all made serious mistakes and at one time or another had their epitaph written by some knowledgeable "expert".

These people have to write about something, it's their job and they know very few will get fired up over or interested in "everything is just fine" articles. This just proves that while the medium has changed, other things don't. Sex, war, depravity and misery sells, puppies and kittens don't.

In the words of Robert Scoble ...
PEOPLE. Stop comparing Facebook to Google+. And if this is a ghost town why does a new message show up on my street every 15 seconds? Oh, yeah, the mainstream media is threatened by Google+.

I rest my case.

This is in response to "Ghost town watch: People spend more time monthly on MySpace than Google+" on VentureBeat by Sean Ludwig.
